In Genesis League Goals, after opening packs or visiting the card market, you'll notice a few different types of cards, differentiated by a two-letter abbreviation in the top right corner (as highlighted in the two examples in the image below). We will go through these different types of cards in this article.
** Note: All cards have a regular and gold foil version; gold foil versions will be less common. We will not differentiate between the two in this article, as they don't affect the specific card types themselves. However, these differences do come into play in relation to Leveling and Combining Cards.
CO for 'Coach' and DF for 'Defender'
Card Types in GLG
When you sort your collection or the card market, you will see two different 'Roles': Coaches and Players. Coaches will not have any subcategories (outside of foil choices), while the Players category has a few different types nested under it. Each of these types of cards has a specific use on a team, which you can learn more about in our team management article.
Below, we will outline each type of card, its abbreviation, a brief description, and some visual examples, with relevant stats highlighted if applicable.
Coach (CO) Cards
Each team will need 1 Coach card (reserves are not selected for the coach position); each coach will provide their own 'rule', functioning like a strategic upgrade or buff, to aid their team in winning. Various coaches are seen below (there are quite a few other available coaches in-game), and the name for each coach's specific rule can be seen on the bottom 1/3rd of the card (E.g.: Boss Boost, Underdawg, etc.). As one may expect, a coach card will not be used in the actual match on the pitch; only player cards will be used to move the ball up and down the field.
Player Cards
Players are the cards used to, well... play a match! Similar to coaches, every individual player is available in both regular and gold foil versions, with each player assigned to a specific position. These positions have specific quantity requirements for each team, although you have the flexibility to select reserves as well. You will also see that there are six stats on the bottom 1/3rd of player cards, instead of a rule; all player types except Goalkeepers will have values for each of the six: Passing (PA), Shooting (SH), and Dribbling (DR) (for offense) and Intercepting (IN), Blocking (BL), and Tackling (TA) (for defense).
Goalkeeper (GK): Each team will require 1 Goalkeeper in the active line-up, however, more can be selected for substitutions and reserves. This will be the first card in your team selection process where you'll need to keep track of stats (highlighted below), as a Goalkeeper will be your last line of defense if your opponent succeeds in moving the ball down the field to your goal box. Notice that Goalkeepers only have stats for Passing (PA) and Blocking (BL), as they will not be moving the ball up and down the field in the same way as other types of players.
Defender (DF): Defenders will be chosen in pairs for each line-up, similar to Goalkeepers, you may have more than two for substitutions and reserves. The first two will be added to the starting lineup and the other selections will be added to reserves. Note that each player in this category has their own values for each of the six stats, unlike Goalkeepers. These are defensive players, so you will want to note their 3 defensive stats highlighted in blue below (Intercepting (IN), Blocking (BL), and Tackling (TA)). The other 3 offensive stats will come into play too (Passing (PA), Shooting (SH), and Dribbling (DR)).
Midfielder (MF): Midfielders are the next player type and also must be chosen two at a time, but a team may have more than two for substitutions and reserves. The first two will be added to the starting lineup and the other selections will be added to reserves. Midfielders will have both offensive and defensive responsibilities; they are used to help stop an opponent's advance down the field, but also to move the ball to your forwards and ideally into your opponent's goal area. All six stats will potentially be very important for those in this position, and are highlighted in red in the image below.
Forward (FW): The last player type is the Forward, with teams also requiring 2 for the current line-up, but as with the previous types, a team may have more than two for substitutions and reserves. The first two will be added to the starting lineup and the other selections will be added to reserves. This will be, for the most, a heavily offensive position. Like Defenders, all six stats do matter, but for Forwards, the 3 offensive stats (Passing (PA), Shooting (SH), and Dribbling (DR)) will be particularly important (highlighted in yellow below).
